Skill Set 8
Game 1 Exponents 1 & 2 Dot
How to Play: Make the number 24 using the four numbers on the wheel. You can add, subtract, multiply and divide. Use all four numbers in the wheel, but use each only once. Your solution must use one and ONLY ONE exponential operation. You can square, cube, take the square root or cube root of a number or a computed number.
- Click START button; the timer counts down from 90 seconds. Clickable black
numbers appear on each wheel.
- In addition to being able to use the four standard operation buttons at the bottom of the card, you must select one of the EXPONENT operations from the left side of the card. You can apply the exponential operation to any number (or computed number), and in any order you wish. Click on a number, then Click on an operation sign, then Click on a second number. This is how you will build your solution. The result of your first step will be automatically shown. For step two, you can combine the result, or the remaining number(s) on the wheel, using the operation signs as you did in your first step. Options for the third step are the same as step two. The final answer must be 24.
- Once you are sure the solution you built is correct CLICK the ENTER button.
- If your solution is correct, a smiley face appears in the white box inside
the Success Chart. The game automatically shows the next card.
If you solve two 1 Dot cards within 90 seconds, a 24® game “sticker” will
appear on your Success Chart. If time runs out before you solve
two cards, try again.
- Once you receive six 24® gamestickers, you will play to earn “Gold
Stars.” To
earn Gold Star stickers you must correctly solve two 2 Dot cards
within 90 seconds.
Power Jump
Students are given the option to try a Power Jump after they have earned the
first two 24® game stickers on their Success Chart. If they select the Power
Jump option and are successful, they automatically earn the remaining stickers
and move directly to the Gold Star sticker level. If a student is not successful,
the game will continue at the next 24® game sticker level. There is no penalty
for an unsuccessful attempt at the Power Jump. Students may also try a Power
Jump when earning Gold Star stickers. |
